Rebecca and Royden Glade first heard about the L. S. Skaggs Patient Wellness Center about three years ago. Rebecca, an incredible musician and voice teacher for many vocalists in the community, experienced a life-changing stroke 4 years ago and lost movement in her entire right side of her body.
After rehabilitation care at both the University of Utah’s Sugar House Clinic and Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital, Rebecca was directed to the Skaggs clinic to maintain her progress. Royden tagged along, and the two of them could not be happier with their experience at Skaggs.
Their journey began with an evaluation to gauge their needs. They immediately noticed the personal touch and tailored treatment they each received. The atmosphere has been both professional and fun for the Glades.
"If we need any help they’re ready to assist and that’s a huge part of it, I think, is having that individual attention and help," Rebecca said.
Skaggs has also provided a sense of community for those who attend, like Rebecca. “It is very motivating to see other people who have been through similar problems or are struggling with issues now courageously moving forward.”
The Glades have found many friends while attending the Skaggs Wellness Center. Now they meet once a month outside of the clinic to get lunch with their friends at various restaurants or within people’s homes.

“I like that when you come here, you are the main person. When you come, they’re interested in how you are feeling, what you are feeling, and what you have been doing. They take your pulse and blood pressure
and then they ask if they can do anything for you," Rebecca said.
Everything that the Glades do within the clinic translates to their life at home. They feel stronger, more balanced, and have the energy to do the things they need. In reference to the Skagg's recent move of locations, Rebecca said, “When they were closed for three weeks, during the move, we really noticed the difference. We really, really missed it a lot.”
“A program like this is to enhance your personal living. And if it doesn’t do that, then it’s the wrong program. But this program does enhance it," Royden said.
For the Glades, the L.S. Skaggs Wellness Center provided recovery, community and strength, which was exactly what they needed to continue progress after Rebecca’s stroke. They now consistently attend the gym and keep up their exercises both here and at home.
We invite you to consider donating to the L.S. Skaggs Wellness Center to support more progress for patients like Rebecca and Royden. It’s thanks to people like you that we can continue making a difference.
