The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs related to speech-language pathology and audiology. Our department provides education, research, and clinical opportunities related to communication sciences and disorders. The department's clinical programs are fully accredited, demonstrating that they meet rigorous quality standards for the training of future speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

The College of Health offers a range of degree programs in speech, language, and hearing sciences to prepare students for careers in these fields. The programs provide the academic foundation, clinical training, and research skills needed for these professions.

University of Utah Health's Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic is a professional outpatient clinic that serves the greater Salt Lake City community. The clinic also serves as a training program for graduate students in speech-language pathology and audiology.

Learning Abroad

This one-week program will provide students with theoretical and experimental learning opportunities in beautiful Oaxaca City, Mexico. Students participate in learning projects with local education and health agencies, and participate in guided cultural tours within Oaxaca City, Mexico and its nearby towns.

Accreditation

The University of Utah's residential Master of Science in speech-language pathology and Doctor of Audiology in audiology programs are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

    The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders mission is to prepare highly competent and caring professional Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists. The department provides undergraduate students a strong background in the basic processes underlying typically developing speech, language, and hearing and graduate students world-class pedagogical and clinical experiences. As a preeminent research and teaching department with national and global reach, we are committed to providing an academic environment in which the highest standards of scholarship and clinical service are practiced. All faculty, staff, and students promote a climate of respect and equity that cultivates and sustains transformative practices in the classroom, clinic, and community.

    1. Advance knowledge through innovative basic and clinical research and scholarship.
    2. Provide outstanding pre-professional training in speech, language and hearing science.
    3. Train competent and caring speech-language pathologists, audiologists, educators, and research scientists.
    4. Provide compassionate, comprehensive, evidence-based clinical services to the community.
    5. Raise awareness of the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology and to recruit exceptional students to our programs.
