50th Anniversary Keynote Speaker: Tom Adams

The University of Utah Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department is excited to welcome University of Utah alumnus and PRT graduate Tom Adams as its 50th Anniversary Keynote Speaker. Tom Adams is currently the Director of the Office of Outdoor Recreation at the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development.

Tom Adams has been dedicated to Utah’s outdoor recreation industry for over 25 years. During that time, his passions in life have consistently followed his career path hand in hand. From the N.A. Sales Director for Petzl to a Ski Instructor at Brighton, it has been Adams’ personal goal to make every aspect of the outdoor industry more enjoyable and accessible for his clients, friends, and family.

According to Rose Smith, Utah PRT master's student and Office of Outdoor Recreation Program Specialist, Adams is a “perfect choice” as he “embodies the mission of University of Utah PRT in both his personal and professional life.”

As a Utah native and University of Utah graduate with a Commercial Recreation Management degree, Adams incorporates over 25 years of experience in the outdoor recreation industry in order to promote policy and advocate for sustainability here in Utah. “He travels around the state to meet face-to-face with stakeholders, public land managers, community leaders, small businesses and outdoor industry advocates to both inform policy and advocate for a healthy Utah through outdoor recreation”, says Smith.

Further, Smith states Adams “is dedicated to giving back to the [University of Utah] and inspires students” as a “leader and mentor”.

Now as the Director of Outdoor Recreation for the State of Utah Adams helps to ensure that each resident or visitor will have the best possible resources to enjoy the range of outdoor recreation opportunities that Utah offers.

As competitive cyclist and experienced rock and ice climber, Adams also shares a personal interest and passion for all the recreation Utah has to offer. Adams enjoys living near the base of the Wasatch Mountains with his wife, Gwendolyn, and their three young boys.

Come hear Tom Adams and meet other Utah Parks, Recreation, and Tourism alumni at the 50th Anniversary Celebration April 12th, from 4 - 6pm, at the Fort Douglas Officer's Club, University of Utah.
