LESSON PLANS
How Team Thrive Elementary Started
Team Thrive Elementary began as a project in a Preventive Health Praxis Lab through the Honors College at the University of Utah. A group of undergraduate students developed a practical initiative to support youth health by working with local partners. Focusing on long-term impact and preventive strategies, the team created a health curriculum designed for elementary schools. With support from Team Thrive, University Neighborhood Partners, and the Utah State Board of Education, the curriculum has continued to grow and evolve into what we now proudly call Team Thrive Elementary.
Our Vision
Our curriculum is designed to be engaging and practical for both children and teachers. It helps students build healthy habits early by providing clear, age-appropriate lessons and resources. Each lesson is thoughtfully developed to support meaningful learning and to reflect the variety of experiences students bring to the classroom, helping them connect with the material in ways that matter to them.
Curriculum Description
The elementary curriculum includes 17 lesson plans, organized into three grade groups: K–2, 3–4, and 5–6. Each group features approximately 5–6 lessons focused on core topics such as food, physical activity, and media literacy. Every lesson includes clear learning objectives, reading passages, and hands-on activities aligned with the lesson theme. The curriculum meets Utah State Board of Education standards and supports both academic growth and practical life skills.
To make navigation easier in a digital setting, hyperlinks are included to connect instructions with related materials (e.g., worksheets and reading passages). These materials can be printed for student use, projected in class, or accessed on student devices.
While we suggest teaching the lessons in the recommended order for each grade group, they can be adapted to fit your schedule, class size, and available resources.
