Welcome to the Kinesiology (KINES) Program within the Department of Health, Kinesiology, and Recreation at the University of Utah! Our undergraduate and graduate programs focus on physical activity from multiple perspectives in accordance with the American Kinesiology Association (AKA), of which we are a member. The AKA defines Kinesiology as: “the academic discipline which involves the study of physical activity and its impact on health, society, and quality of life.”
The KINES faculty and staff are dedicated to helping our students succeed academically. Kinesiology students have multiple opportunities to engage in community, educational and research initiatives. The programs we offer allow students to customize their experience in a manner that best suits their professional goals.
The undergraduate program is ideal for those seeking professional careers in health care such as medicine, dentistry and physical therapy (Exercise Science), in fitness (Fitness and Wellness Specialist) and in teaching (Kinesiology Teaching); the graduate program in Coaching Wellness prepares students to work alongside health care professionals to facilitate behavior change in various populations; the research-oriented MS and PhD programs are suited to those wishing to engage in the scholarship of human movement.
We enhance health, quality of life, and human performance through discovery, dissemination, and application of the scientific foundations of physical activity.
Working together, we aspire to be globally recognized for excellence in advancing the knowledge and practice of physical activity and mentoring future leaders in our discipline.
