CPR and First Aid Courses

The Center for Emergency Programs offers a varity of CPR and First Aid courses

Many of our courses can be taken for certification through the American Heart Association and all of our courses can be taken for general knowledge. For individuals looking for CPR training, we offer monthly BLS Healthcare Provider CPR Courses. For groups, business/agency we offer several options that can be tailored to your needs. 

Heartsaver First Aid, CPR, and AED Skills Session for Individuals

The Heartsaver first aid, CPR, and AED skills session is the skills session associated with the American Heart Association's Heartsaver first aid, CPR, and AED hybrid course. It is taught online through the American Heart Association with a skills session taught through the Center for Emergency Programs. You must register for and complete both sections to receive a certification card.

  • This is a community level certification and DOES NOT meet requirements for Healthcare students or professionals. 
    Registration

    To register for and see the cost of the Heartsaver first aid, CPR, and AED course visit the American Heart Association and select Heartsaver first aid, CPR, and AED. 

    To register for the skills session visit the UUCEP Market and select CPR courses. You may then pick the day you wish to attend. The skills session cost is $55.00.

    • All Classes will meet in the HPR-West Building room 117 unless otherwise noted.

    Cancellation Policy

    CPR and First Aid classes must have a minimum enrollment of 3 students in order to be held. Each class can hold a maximum of ten students.

    $10.00 administration fee will apply for any cancellations up to 24-hours before the class. Less than 24 hour cancellation or 'no shows' will not receive reimbursement.

    Heartcode BLS Provider CPR Skills Session for Individuals

    The Heartcode BLS provider CPR skills session is the skills session associated with the American Heart Association's Heartcode BLS provider CPR hybrid course. It is taught online through the American Heart Association with a skills session taught through the Center for Emergency Programs. You must register for and complete both sections to receive a certification card. This course meets the prerequisite for EMT courses.

      Registration

      To register for and see the cost of the Heartcode BLS provider course visit the American Heart Association and select Heartcode BLS. 

      To register for the skills session visit the UUCEP Market and select CPR courses from the left hand menu. You may then pick the day you wish to attend. The skills session cost is $45.00.

      For more information, pricing, and questions about scheduling, please reach out to us through email. All courses can be tailored to some degree to meet the needs of your group or business. We also are able to present specific topics by request.

      Introduction

      45-60 Minutes

      This class specifically covers recognizing cardiac arrest, starting Compression Only Adult CPR, and activating 911. This class includes very little skills practice, but students leave knowing how to do Adult CPR and use an AED.

      • Limit 60 people per class

      Basic – What to Do Until the Ambulance Arrives

      2 Hours

      This class covers quick patient assessment, getting help, compressions-only CPR, AED, care of airway, breathing, circulation, bleeding, shock and spinal injuries until Emergency Responders arrive.

      • Limit per class is 20 people. 

      Mid-Range

      4 Hours

      This class covers everything in the basic class but in more depth and includes more skills practice. It also expands into common medical emergencies such as diabetes, drug overdose, heart attack, and others.

      • Limit per class is 20 people. 

      In-Depth

      8 Hours

      This class expands on the mid-range class in both depth and breadth. It provides the most skills practice and tailoring to your setting such as heat and cold emergencies, bites & stings, trauma.

      • Limit per class is 20 people
      • Appropriate for higher risk settings such as construction

      Healthcare Provider/BLS

      4 Hours

      This class provides the AHA certification required for most clinical settings. It includes adult, child and infant, one and two rescuer CPR, AED and use of rescue breathing masks. Some content can be tailored to meet your clinical protocols.

      • Limit per class is 20 people

        What kind of first aid and CPR classes do you offer?

        We offer a semester length CPR and First Aid course, H EDU 2000.

        Once a month there is an American Heart Association (AHA) Heartcode BLS Provider level CPR skills session. This skills session is connected to the online Heartcode BLS provider course the AHA offers.

        We also have several first aid and CPR options for groups, businesses, and organizations. For more information on scheduling a class for your group, business, or organization, contact us.

        *Open enrollment community first aid classes are currently not offered.

        What is a Heartcode BLS provider skills session?

        The Heartcode BLS provider skills sessions is the skills component of the American Heart Association’s (AHA) online Heartcode BLS provider course. This course is a mixed class where all the lecture is done online at your convenience. Once the online portion has been successfully completed, students must schedule to attend a skills session to complete certification.

        How much does it cost to get CPR certified?

        The Heartcode BLS provider skills sessions are $35. The American Heart Association Heartcode online lecture portion is $28.50 paid directly to the American Heart Association.

        A variety of Certification and non-certification first aid/CPR classes are available. Along with tailored content to meet your needs and time restraints.

        How do I renew my first aid certification?

        First aid challenge courses or renewals are NOT offered. The H EDU 2000, First Aid and CPR course is an option for certification.

        How do I recertify/renew my CPR certification?

        To recertify or renew your CPR certification, you must retake the class. The Heartcode BLS Provider skills session in conjunction with the American Heart Association’s Heartcode BLS provider online course is available.
