Off-Campus Credit/Non-Credit Courses

ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS

All of ESSF's off-campus courses are half semester sessions and are worth 1 credit; the exception to this is the scuba diving course, which is worth 1.5 credits.

To receive this academic credit, students must attend up to 12 hours per half session. A student can go no more than 14 times to the off-site facility they registered for.

Attendance for Kickboxing, MetCon (Ute CrossFit) & SLC Parks & Rec are drop-in; the student will attend the location at times each week that work in their schedule. Once a student has attended the required 12 hours, they are done.  You can join any class offered at any of these facilities towards your 12 hours.  Attendance is taken at the facility then given to ESSF at the end of the half session to receive credit; attendance when at the facility is not taken by ESSF staff.

Scuba Diving and Golf are the two courses where attendance is managed differently

For golf, students must attend the day/time assigned to the course they enrolled in.  There are no drop-in options.  If a student misses one of those scheduled times, it is their responsibility to coordinate attending one of the other scheduled times offered that half-session with the instructor Dave Carter at the Glendale Golf.

Scuba sessions are listed as Open Water Training (OWT) and must be selected by the student after they have enrolled first through ESSF.  These courses are up to 4 hours for each meet; 3 dive meets will give students their 12 hours.  Please inquire further about these schedules with the Dive Shop. ESSF only assists with giving permission codes to enroll in an off-campus dive course.  ESSF DOES NOT do any enrolling or selection of the OWT for students.

Students DO NOT need to receive their dive certification to receive academic credit; they must complete the OWT and final dive they signed up to, for their academic credit.  Please call the Dive Shop with any questions regarding their training times at 801-295-5445.

Current ESSF Off Campus Course Descriptions

Increased physical activity has been proven to have significant impact on your overall health, well-being, intellect, and quality of life. It's time to take action towards leading a healthy lifestyle and participate in an ESSF course today.

Students or non-students can take these classes for credit or non-credit. Non-credit students do not have to be registered students at the University of Utah. Non-credit courses are more cost effective than taking courses for credit. Non-credit registration can be done at www.continue.utah.edu/noncredit/

Credit courses can be repeated for credit as many times as a student prefers. Register for credit on CIS from www.utah.edu.
