Residency Requirements

Tuition at the University of Utah is charged at differential rates for residents versus non-residents.

The OTD Program at the University of Utah has been approved by the Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE)! For more information, please visit: This program makes high-quality, distinctive graduate programs and healthcare-related programs available to students of the West at discounted tuition rate. Through WRGP, residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming are eligible to enroll in available programs outside of their home state at a discounted tuition rate. Students must be US citizens to be eligible. Students do not need to change residency classification to benefit from the WRGP. Students need not demonstrate financial need.

Recent changes in WRGP policy (Spring 2019) allow individual WICHE institutions to charge up to 150% of in-state tuition to WICHE region students beginning Fall 2020. For WRGP students admitted before Fall 2020, the University of Utah will continue to charge in-state tuition through the completion of their degree program. However, WRGP students entering Fall 2020 (and beyond) will be charged 110% of in-state resident tuition for the duration of their graduate career.

WICHE states include Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Alaska, and Hawaii. Utah is also part of the WICHE.
