Adding a Minor to Your Degree
- Meet with the Parks, Recreation, & Tourism academic advisor.
- Complete a minimum of 18 approved credit hours required for either the Parks, Recreation, & Tourism minor or the Hospitality Management minor.
- Periodically schedule an appointment with the advisor to discuss your progress (and options for PRT elective credits within the PRT minor).
Park, Recreation, & Tourism Minor
The Parks, Recreation, & Tourism minor equips students with the fundamentals for careers in outdoor recreation, public lands management, and sustainable tourism.
Through this program, students develop understanding in recreation planning, environmental stewardship, leisure services management, and tourism development.
Whether you're interested in commercial recreation, community programming, or sustainable tourism management, this minor prepares you to contribute to Utah's thriving outdoor recreation industry.

- Understand the historical and current trends in the field including philosophical issues, the role of various governmental services, and economic factors.
- Identify, create, and lead recreational opportunities for individuals with an array of skill and interest levels within a variety of program types.
- Recognize the significance of providing services for all individuals and learn to adapt and create services for non-dominant populations.
- Learn the skills needed to succeed in professional parks, recreation, and tourism organizations including marketing and promotion, budgeting and pricing, and potential risk and liability matters.
Hospitality Management Minor
The new minor in Hospitality Management is an opportunity for students from other majors across campus to develop the skills and knowledge required to work in a growing field that is integral to Utah’s economy.
Hospitality is one of the fastest growing economic sectors across the globe and is specifically important to the State of Utah. This exciting industry encompasses travel, tourism, events, restaurants, hotels, and experience design. Utah specifically is in need of new professionals with an expertise in this area to support its travel and tourism economy including its public lands, the ski resort industry, and the 2034 Olympics.
