Pilates Instructor Training Program
The University of Utah's 500+ hour Pilates Instructor Training program offers a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for professional certification in Pilates instruction. With a focus on practical skills, anatomical knowledge, and teaching methodology, graduates emerge ready to promote health and wellness through the practice of Pilates. This certification follows the Pilates Method Alliance 500-hour comprehensive training guidelines.
The Pilates Instructor Training does not offer academic credit, only a certified Pilates teacher training certificate.
Curriculum Highlights
- Fundamentals of Pilates: Covers the history, principles, and philosophy of Pilates.
- Anatomy and Biomechanics: In-depth study of human anatomy relevant to Pilates, focusing on alignment, movement patterns, and muscular engagement.
- Pilates Matwork: Progressive series of mat exercises, emphasizing cueing, modifications, and sequencing for different levels.
- Equipment-Based Pilates: Utilization of various Pilates apparatus (such as reformer, cadillac, chair, and barrels), including setup, safety, and advanced techniques.
- Special Populations: Adaptations for clients with specific needs (e.g., pre/post-natal, seniors, athletes).
- Teaching Methodology: Techniques for effective cueing, hands-on adjustments, class planning, and client assessment.
- Business and Ethics: Practical aspects of starting and managing a Pilates studio, client communication, and professional ethics.
- Practicum and Supervised Teaching: Hands-on teaching experience under supervision, integrating theory into practice.
Certification and Accreditation
Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for the certification exam recognized by national Pilates organizations, ensuring graduates meet industry standards for teaching Pilates safely and effectively.
Faculty and Facilities
Led by experienced Pilates educators and allied health professionals, classes are held in the U’s on-site Pilates facility, equipped with Pilates apparatus and anatomical models, providing an immersive learning environment.
