Community Engaged Health Promotion Through Dissemination & Implementation Science
The Community-Engaged Dissemination & Implementation (CEDI) team studies ways to better integrate proven health interventions into communities and clinics. We work closely with communities on projects addressing childhood obesity in rural areas, diabetes prevention for underserved groups, obesity prevention among indigenous populations, and reducing sedentary behavior at workplaces.

Effectiveness of the Diabetes Empowerment Program
A Pre-Post Intervention Study. This research activity is in partnership with the Midvale Community Building Community Clinic, which is a non-profit organization that provides low-cost or no-cost services to vulnerable communities. The research revolves around diabetes prevention and management for individuals in the Spanish-speaking, low-income population. The DEP includes an interdisciplinary approach focusing on education related to stress management and real-life application (occupational therapy), health literacy and pharmaceuticals (pharmacy), physical fitness and exercise (physical therapy), nutrition (registered dietetics), and oral hygiene (dentistry). Occupational therapy is the leading profession in the program as they implement individualized participant plans on habits, roles, and routines as they are related to diabetes prevention or management.
