Avalanche Rescue Fundamentals (ARF)
During one evening in class and one full day in the field, this course covers all the fundamental information and skills required to enact an efficient and effective avalanche rescue. Designed for both backcountry travelers and SAR professionals, this course will help you expand your emergency response skill set.
Cliff and Crag Rope Rescue Fundamentals
This course is an introduction to the systems and skills utilized during high-angle rescue operations. There will be both classroom instruction and practical demonstrations with time to practice skills provided for the participants. This course will primarily focus on personal safety systems in the high-angle rescue context.
Cliff and Crag Rope Rescue Refresher
This course is 2 full days. Fast-paced, it is meant as a refresher for skills from the High Angle Technician course. Students will be expected to come ready to plug right in to practice and scenarios. Prerequisite for this course is a previous Technician-level certification from RRT.
Cliff and Crag Rope Rescuer
The HRT course presents instruction on the complete skills set for administering practical double rope rescue skills and wilderness medicine in the vertical setting. Participants will be well practiced in personal safety systems, natural anchors, ascending/descending and low angle and vertical rescue operations at course completion.
Swiftwater Rescue Fundamentals (SRF)
During one evening in class and one full day in the field, this course covers all the fundamental information and skills required to enact an efficient and effective avalanche rescue. Designed for both backcountry travelers and SAR professionals, this course will help you expand your emergency response skill set.
Swiftwater Rescue Techniques (SRT)
The SRT course consists of practical and classroom instruction on the complete skills set for administering practical rescue skills and wilderness medicine in swiftwater settings. The most recent theory will be presented in a didactic format prior to demonstrations and practice of this new knowledge. The course will be focused on hydrology, river classifications, scene size-up, and scene management initially. Practical skills will follow and include self-rescue, swiftwater swimming, in-water rescue fundamentals, rope rescue anchoring systems, and mechanical advantage.
Mountain Rescuer
This course is presented on the massive glaciers of Washington's Mt. Rainier, considered the best glacier training ground in the U.S. The Rescuer-level course will cover various cramponing techniques, ice axe positioning, self-arrest, rock/snow/ice anchor placement, glacier travel procedures and route finding, and self/group crevasse rescue techniques. Long term patient and rescuer well being will be emphasized in each practical session/scenario during the course.
Climbing Self-Rescue 1 (CSR1)
Designed for rock climbers who want to understand the fundamental skills of self rescue, this course covers all the bases. The focus is on learning applicable rescue systems, not just memorizing steps in esoteric skills. Learn how to escape a belay, lower a patient, and pass a knot while maintaining a focus on prevention, understanding the big picture and how to approach a rescue with a cool head. You don’t need rescue skills on most days that you climb, but basic rescue skills are a must for all climbers. Click on course title for more information.
Enrollment: This class is taught on a contract basis to a small group of climbers. Contact us if you have a group of 4-6 folks interested and we can look at scheduling. We usually schedule a couple of months ahead.
Climbing Self-Rescue 2 (CSR2)
Do you like to climb longer routes? Want to be prepared to be self-sufficient if things go wrong? Beyond the basics, this course will cover ascending a fixed rope, practical mechanical advantage systems and various techniques for rappelling with an injured partner. Do yourself a favor, bring your climbing partner.
Climbing Self-Rescue 3 (CSR3)
Do you know how to access a fallen leader who is more than half the rope length out? Do you know how to prevent suspension trauma while rappelling with a patient? Do you know how to rappel multiple pitches of overhanging terrain? This problem-solving, scenario based course will challenge even the most system savvy rope technician.
