"What exactly is Aikido all about?" The most obvious answer is that Aikido is a remarkably effective form of self-defense which has earned for itself a well-deserved reputation among practitioners of the martial arts. Aikido is a comprehensive system of throwing, joint-locking, striking, and pinning techniques, coupled with training in traditional Japanese weapons. The founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, was determined that his Aikido be practiced as more than simply a method of self-defense, but as a means of developing and promoting the positive character and ultimately of transcending dualistic conflict.
Tai-Chi is taught by Veera in the Yang style tradition of Professor Cheng Man-Ching's teachings. They are noted to strengthen the legs and soften the body; to maintain the equilibrium and increase the sensitivity; to cultivate the mind and seek the Tao.
He has taught Aikido at the University of Utah since 1977 and Tai-Chi since 2002. Veera graduated from the University of Utah in 2002 with an MFA in Painting and Printmaking. He has been awarded a 5th degree black belt from the Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan and a Tai-Chi Instructor in the lineage of Master-Teacher Benjamin Lo.
Aikido and Tai-Chi are suitable for both young and old alike. Everyone is welcome. His philosophy is to train in a safe, vibrant and joyful manner.
