Recipient of three Department of the Interior Valor Awards. Guide for Exum Mountain Guides since 2010. Forty-four years of climbing and alpine experience. Co-authored A Climbers’ Guide to the Teton Range with Leigh Ortenburger. Numerous first ascents and first winter ascents in the Teton Range including the first winter ascents of the Direct South Buttress on Mt. Moran, the Northwest Chimney on the Grand Teton, and the Grand Traverse. Ski descent of the Grand Teton in 2007. Extensive climbing experience in the western US including Yosemite, Alaska, and the southwest desert. Climbs include ascents of 8 routes on El Capitan, an early alpine-style climb of the Cassin Ridge (1979), and many sandstone towers. Participated in six Himalayan expeditions including two to Mt. Everest (1983, 1987), the first ascent of the North Face of Cholatse (1984), and an ascent of the southwest ridge of Ama Dablam (2010). Instructor at the Khumbu Climbing Center in Nepal in 2009, 2011 and 2014. Ski patrolman at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort for 14 years.
