Rachel created the Hip Hop program at the University of Utah in 2011 while completing a double major in Finance and Psychology. She discovered her passion for Hip Hop dance as a young teen living in Washington state, she had an abundance of energy which Bgirling (commonly known as breakdancing) provided the perfect athletic and creative outlet for, so she began to teach herself the art of breakin' one move at a time, diligently practicing everyday. After moving to Utah in high school she expanded her knowledge and experience in dance, learning fundamentals in other Hip Hop styles like popping and locking. Rachel joined a local Bboy/Bgirl crew called 'Blowup Kingz' and began performing and competing in local and regional events. In addition, Rachel learned from experienced dancers in Los Angeles, joining a historical Hip Hop crew called 'Airforce Crew' as well. Her challenging signature strength moves and style earned her the title of 'Bgirl Savage.' As a sophomore in college, Rachel wanted to share her passion for the culture and movement of Hip Hop so she started the Break Club at the U of U, and was a dedicated president for 6 years, every week volunteering to teach any students that wanted to learn Hip Hop, while organizing countless performances for U of U affiliated organizations and various charities. Rachel deeply appreciates the culture and history of Hip Hop which represents a diverse, powerful uniting force for self-expression, equality and equal opportunity, encompassing the underlying philosophy of peace, love, unity and having fun. Rachel's class shows students the spirit of Hip Hop while providing a fun full body workout, with classic moves like the worm and the moonwalk. She teaches students to adapt Hip Hop moves to their individual style, expressing themselves uniquely with an emphasis on freestyle. Rachel is passionate about teaching Hip Hop dance as a pathway to a healthy, fun and active lifestyle.
