Dr. Jackie Waring earned her DPT from the University of Utah in 2008 and joined the Utah Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program as a resident with the first cohort in 2012-13. She has since joined the residency faculty as a mentor. Dr. Waring believes that one of the most valuable aspects of participating in the residency is learning to pragmatically utilize scientifically-supported therapy. “The didactic and mentorship portions of the residency merge the theoretical with the functional, bridging limitations and gaps in the evidence with what is practically and effectively applied in the clinic. Furthermore, the residency program forces us all – residents and mentors – to reflect on our practice approaches. There is tremendous value in having to articulate one’s treatment rational; this ultimately helps us systematize our processes for decision making. Physical therapy practice entails continuous evolution, and this residency is a fantastic way to launch that process.”
