Giving More Life: The Power of Philanthropy

Philanthropy in Action: Olena's Story

Woman standing on a balcony

Olena Zhorova knows firsthand what it feels like to be treated differently because of how you sound. As a Ukrainian immigrant with a strong accent who moved to the US after living in Mexico, she’s often been put on the spot with questions about where she’s from. These experiences once made her communication confidence shrink, but ultimately inspired her to pursue a path in speech-language pathology so she can help others feel seen, heard, and supported.

Now, with the help of a scholarship, Olena can fully focus on her studies and follow that passion. Fluent in four languages and driven by empathy, she’s on her way to becoming a much-needed speech pathologist, bringing a unique perspective and deep understanding to the people she hopes to serve.

Investing in a Healthier Future

"Since joining the College of Health last November, I’ve been inspired by the shared passion of our faculty, students, alumni, and friends. Across our many disciplines, we are united by a single mission: to add more years to our life—and more life to our years. Philanthropy makes that mission possible by strengthening our students, empowering our faculty, and expanding our impact across Utah and beyond.

When you give to the College of Health, you invest in people and ideas that create lasting change. Your support opens doors for future health leaders through scholarships and fuels research that improves lives, from rehabilitation and mobility to mental and community health. On behalf of our students, faculty, and the communities they serve, thank you for helping shape a healthier future."
