Tuition Guide

The cost for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program varies based on pathway and whether a student is a resident or non-resident. Tuition rates typically increase yearly so tuition information on this page should only be used as an estimate. Official tuition schedules are on the Office of the Bursar website.

Note: The DPT program is currently transitioning differential tuition to be assessed over summer, fall, and spring semesters. Students in the class of 2024 and 2025 should refer to the tuition schedule on the Office of the Bursar website for the applicable differential tuition rate. Students in the class of 2024 and 2025 will only be assessed differential tuition in fall and spring semester. Students in the class of 2026 (and beyond) will be assessed differential tuition in summer, fall, and spring at the rate on the above estimates. The differential tuition rate on the Bursar's Office website is only accurate for the class of 2024 and 2025.

Differential Tuition

The Utah Board of Regents and University of Utah have approved the Doctor of Physical Therapy program to assess differential tuition to students in the DPT Salt Lake City and St. George pathways. Differential tuition is charged in addition to the standard graduate tuition rate. Differential tuition covers the additional resources required to provide graduate professional and clinical training.

Residency for Tuition Purposes

Tuition at the University of Utah is charged at a different rate for Utah residents versus non-residents. Tuition for the Hybrid pathway is not charged based on residency. For eligible students in the Salt Lake City or St. George pathways, applying to reclassify as a resident will reduce the cost of tuition to the resident rate. A student admitted as a non-resident should review the information about residency reclassification, deadlines, and the application process and begin the process of establishing residency as soon as admission. Read the Residency for Tuition Purposes website carefully and review all rules and requirements.

For eligible students, the residency reclassification application will need to be submitted by July 1 of the second year of the DPT program to take effect for the Fall semester of the second year. Eligible students must begin the process of establishing residency and demonstrating physical presence in the state of Utah immediately upon the start of the DPT program.
