240 hour PEAK Internship

240 hours (Approximately 18 hours per week) based on the U academic calendar

$1000 stipend paid at completion of internship hours

Intern will receive training and hands-on experience in the following areas:

Fitness Leadership (six to nine hours per week)

  • Teach two to three PEAK group fitness classes
  • Personal training

PEAK Testing

  • bod pod
  • fitness testing
  • personal training
  • resting metabolic rate testing

Biometric Screening

  • finger stick cholesterol
  • blood pressure
  • waist circumference
  • communication about biometric screening results

Fitness Program Management/Administrative Tasks

  • Biometric screening management
  • Fitness Instructor evaluation
  • Scheduling
  • Reminder calls

Schedule

Depends on availability and fitness class schedule.

To be considered, applicant must:

  • Be available for internship responsibilities 16-20 hours per week
  • Be available to teach at least six hours of fitness classes per week
  • Be willing and available to participate in 10 hours of training prior to start date (these training hours will be counted toward your total 240 hours).

Desired Qualifications

    • Demonstrated interest in health and fitness
    • Willingness and ability to learn testing
    • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
    • Demonstrated experience in the health/fitness field
    • Completed human anatomy and exercise physiology

Personal training Management Internship – PEAK/MUSE partnership

*Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Utah*

120 hours paid at $10/hour

This internship will develop management skills in a health and fitness testing setting. Under the guidance of the PEAK director, intern will take charge of managing one semester of the PEAK level 1 personal training program. Intern will gain valuable management experience in an educational environment. Depending on the number of trainers we have, the intern may also have the opportunity to participate in other aspects of PEAK. We will work with the individual intern to tailor this internship to their needs. Additional opportunities might include: learning health and fitness testing, teaching fitness classes, evaluating fitness instructors, conducting personal training, writing articles for the PEAK website/newsletter, aiding in marketing PEAK services and participating in PEAK projects and/or research. Intern will learn to work as a part of a team of health and fitness specialists.

Responsibilities

  • PT program management: communication with participants and trainers, managing registration, maintaining await list and filling spots as needed, and collecting trainer evaluations.
  • Fitness instruction - Teach one to two group fitness classes, personal training.

Depends on availability and fitness class schedule.

To be considered, applicant must:

  • Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Utah
  • Be available for internship responsibilities nine to ten hours per week
  • Be available to teach at least 2 hours fitness classes per week
  • Be willing and available to participate in 5 hours of training prior to start date (these training hours will be counted toward your total 120 hours).

Desired Qualifications

  • Willingness and ability manage the personal training program
  • Demonstrated interest in health and fitness
  • Willingness and ability to learn testing
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated experience in the health/fitness field
  • Completed human anatomy and exercise physiology
